My business partner took all the money in the company bank account and fled the country. It was a low point in my life. I was bankrupt with a wife and two young boys (March 1998 in Beijing, China).
Needless to say, I was worried about provisions... how to feed and clothe my family, pay for kids education and all the other bills.
During this low point in my life, I was introduced to the Bible. These words below spoken by Jesus got my attention.
“That is why I (Jesus) tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?
“And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
Matthew 6:25-34 NLT
These words spoke directly to me. It felt like Jesus was talking to me individually. I took Jesus up on his challenge...
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
My first step in "Seeking the Kingdom of God", I started reading the Bible daily. I also started praying.
Let me offer some advice about reading the Bible. If reading the Bible is a struggle, try reading a different translation. There are different translated versions. I prefer The New Living Translation (NLT). The NLT uses plain English making the Bible easier to read and understand.
It's been almost 25 years since I took Jesus up on his challenge. I can testify, the words above spoken by Jesus have proven true in my life... All my needs have been met and exceeded beyond my imagination!!!
Consider taking Jesus up on his challenge...
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
It's the best decision I've ever made.
